SF 68: GAME & FISH - PREDATOR CONTROL - 1998 Budget/Special Session

Sponsor: Sen. Bill Barton (R-S1, Upton)

SF 68 provided that two dollars from every big game hunting license sold by the Wyoming Game & Fish Department (WGFD) would be deposited into a special revenue fund. That fund would be administered by the state predatory animal advisory board for predatory animal control.

Proponents of SF 68 argued that more money is needed for predator control on all land in Wyoming, state and federal.

Opponents argued that this was a budget-buster for the Game & Fish Department at $400,000 per year. They also pointed out that the state already pays approximately $100,000 for predator control per year.

SF 68 fell short of the two-thirds vote needed to introduce a non-budget bill in a budget session, 17-13.

The vote listed below is the Senate vote to introduce SF 68.

A YES vote means the legislator wished to consider increasing predator control funding by taking revenue generated from the sales of big game licenses.

A NO vote means the legislator did not wish to consider increasing predator control funding in this manner.
