HB 184: Vehicle Registration Fees – Decrease Sponsor: Joint Revenue Interim Committee HB 184 would have increased Wyoming’s fuel tax on gasoline and diesel fuels by five cents per gallon, going from 14 cents to 19 cents per gallon. Simultaneously, vehicle registration fees would have been decreased by one percent. It was estimated that the increase in fuel taxes would generate about $19 million in increased revenue each year, while decreased vehicle registration fees would decrease state revenue by about $25.5 to $26.8 million per year. The idea behind HB 184 was to get more money from out-of-state highway travelers, especially commercial haulers on the interstates and state highways, while offsetting the financial impact of the fuel tax increase on Wyoming residents by decreasing their vehicle registration costs. HB 184 was referred to the House Revenue Committee, where the bill died without any recorded action. |
