HB 30: Intentional Feeding of Game Animals
2006 Budget Session
Sponsor: Joint Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Interim Committee
HB 30 would have prohibited private individuals from intentionally feeding big game animals. After receiving one warning from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, individuals would have been required to properly store any food sources or attractants to prevent big game animals from having access to them.
The bill specifically exempted feed grounds operated by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, any normal agricultural practices, and any legal form of taking or baiting big game animals as authorized by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission.
A violation of the proposed new regulations would have constituted a fifth degree misdemeanor.
Supporters noted that private feeding of big game animals is unhealthy for the animals and often leads to property damage by concentrating animals in a small area.
Opponents argued that people should be allowed to feed big game animals because they enjoy doing so and some believe it helps the animals survive winter more easily.
HB 30 was not brought up for a vote for introduction in the House.
