HB 124: Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
2006 Budget Session
Sponsor: Task Force on Utility and Tax Relief
HB 124 increased eligibility for the low-income energy assistance program up to 215% of the federal poverty level, and allocated more money (at least 25% of available funding) to weatherization services for eligible residents.
HB 124 appropriated $3 million to pay for the low income energy assistance program for the rest of this fiscal year and for the next two years. The Department of Family Services was directed to request funds in the 2009-2012 standard budget request to continue funding of the program.
The House unanimously passed HB 124, and the Senate passed the bill, 28-2. Senators Cale Case (R-S25, Lander) and Curt Meier (R-S3, LaGrange) cast the two NO votes.
