Until this bill was passed, Wyoming law stated that a person who claimed to have been a victim of discriminatory or unfair employment practices could file a complaint under the Wyoming Fair Employment Practices Act, but the complaint had to be filed within 90 days of the alleged violation.
SF 68 extended the time limitation during which a person may file a claim from 90 days to 180 days.
Supporters noted that Wyoming was one of only two states that imposed a 90-day time limitation. The other 48 states have filing limitations that range from 180 to 365 days. Supporters argued that it would be fair and reasonable to allow people more time to file.
Opponents believed the current law provided sufficient time for people to file complaints.
The Senate passed SF 68, 26-4. The House passed the bill, 59-0 (1 excused). The votes listed below are the Senate and House third reading votes. A YES vote means the legislator supported extending the time limitation for a person to file a complaint about unfair or discriminatory employment practices from 90 days to 180 days. A NO vote means the legislator did not support extending the time limitation.
