HB 116: Fuel Efficient Vehicle Registration
2005 General Session
Sponsor: Rep. Rosie Berger (R-H51, Big Horn); co-sponsors Reps. Marty Martin (D-H48, Rock Springs), Jane Warren (D-H13, Laramie), Kevin White (R-H45, Laramie) and Dan Zwonitzer (R-H43, Cheyenne)

HB 116 proposed a reduced registration fee for vehicles that have a listed fuel economy standard of 50 miles per gallon of fuel or more, as published in the Fuel Economy Guide of the U.S. Department of Energy. Owners of such vehicles would pay 25% of the normal state and county vehicle registration fees.
Proponents of this bill argued that the state should promote energy conservation whenever possible, and that this modest proposal would offer a small but important benefit to those individuals who purchase fuel efficient vehicles.
The House Transportation and Highways Committee passed HB 116, 7-2. The bill died on general file in the House when it was not brought up for debate or a vote before the Committee of the Whole by the deadline for this action.
The votes listed below are the House Transportation and Highways Committee votes. A YES vote means the representative wanted to reduce registration fees for owners of vehicles that get exceptional gas mileage. A NO vote means the representative did not want to reduce registration fees for these types of vehicles.
