SF 88 directed the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to post signs on state public lands to which legal public access exists, indicating that the public has access to the land. The bill initially included an appropriation of $175,000.
The Senate Appropriations Committee amended the funding in the bill down to $53,500, and the Agriculture, Public Lands and Water Resources Committee shifted authority for supervising the work from the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to the Office of State Lands and Investments.
Proponents of the bill noted that the signs would help hunters, anglers and other recreational users avoid accidentally trespassing on private land, and would thus also benefit private landowners.
With the above-noted amendments, the Senate passed SF 88, 25-5. The House passed SF 88 39-18 (three excused).
The votes listed below are Third Reading (final passage) votes in the Senate and House.
A YES vote means the legislator supported directing the Office of State Lands and Investments to post signs on state land informing the general public that they have legal public access to the specified land.
A NO vote means the legislator did not favor so notifying the public about legal access to state land.
