SF 35 established a prescription drug consumer information and technical assistance program within the Department of Health.
The purpose of the program was to provide Wyoming residents with advice on the prudent use of prescription drugs and how to access government and private prescription drug programs and discounts.
The program would be staffed by licensed pharmacists who, in consultation with the prescribing health care professional, also would offer advice on potentially dangerous drug interactions and substituting more cost-effective drugs for the desired treatment.
The bill carried an appropriation of $350,000 to fund two full-time and four part-time positions.
The Senate deleted the appropriation for the program entirely, and deleted the authorization for the positions needed to run the program, on an 18-12 vote.
After the bill was amended, it passed the Senate on Third Reading (final vote), 19-1. Senator Gerald Geis R-S20, Worland) cast the only NO vote.
The House made no changes to the bill, and passed it unanimously.
Both the Senate and the House amended the general government appropriations bill (HB 1/SF 1) to include $100,000 for this program plus authorization for one position, so it will receive that level of funding for the coming year.
The Senate vote to amend SF 35, to delete its appropriation and authorization for positions, is listed below.
A YES vote means the Senator supported removing all funding for this program, as well as authorization to hire positions to run the program.
A NO vote means the Senator did not support removing funding or position authorization from the bill.
