SF 83: Wyoming Business Council – Repeal Sunset
2007 General Session
Sponsor: Joint Minerals, Business and Economic Development Interim Committee
SF 83 repealed the sunset date for the Wyoming Business Council, which was
to be terminated on July 1, 2008.
The Equality State Policy Center testified against the bill, arguing that
the corporate style structure of the Wyoming Business Council, with at-will
employees and public-private funding (primarily public to date) was supposed
to be experimental. A report by the Legislative Service Office last year was
inconclusive about the effectiveness of the Council, and the ESPC argued that
the sunset date should not be repealed before additional, serious evaluation
of the success or failure of the experiment has taken place.
The Senate passed SF 83, 23-6 (1 excused), and the House passed the bill,
42-18. The votes listed below are the Senate and House third reading (final
passage) votes. A YES vote means the legislator wanted to repeal the sunset
date for the Wyoming Business Council, while a NO vote means the legislator
did not want to remove the sunset date.
