HB 25: Domestic Violence Counseling Period Sponsor: Rep. Rosie Berger (R-H51, Big Horn); co-sponsors Reps. Del McOmie (R-H54, Lander), Jane Warren (D-H13, Laramie) and Sens. Jim Anderson (R-S2, Glenrock), Rae Lynn Job (D-S12, Rock Springs) HB 25 would have increased the amount of time a person who has committed an act of domestic abuse may be required to participate in counseling or other appropriate treatment. Currently, counseling may be required for up to 90 days. HB 25 would have allowed counseling or other treatment for the abuser to be required for as long as a protection order was in effect. The House passed HB 25 unanimously. The bill was introduced in the Senate and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where it died without a recorded vote. |
